Jay-Z Covers October 2009 Issue Of XXL Magazine

XXL’s October issue includes stories on The Making of The Blueprint, the current state of lyricism in hip-hop, Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II, and more. The mag hits newsstands September 15.

HIS STANDING IN THE GAME:

“But when I say I’m the best, I don’t say that outta my ass. I say that with all my stats behind me. I put that against anybody. I mean anybody. I really believe that… I believe in a lot of things.
I believe that ‘SportsCenter’ is the best thing on TV. I shouldn’t have to prove it. But I do have these stats to prove it. I’m talking about real run. I’m not talking about years off. I’m talking about straight—boom, boom, boom—back to back. We’re not talking about heritage acts either. We’re not talking about respect what I’ve done. I’m talking No. 1 [albums] 10 times. The Beatles is the only one [to have more
No. 1 albums]. They got 19, and if I get a surge of creativity, I could make nine albums next year.”

CRITICISM OF “D.O.A.”:

“I’m not hating on young people. Like, when people say that, I’m like, What are you talking about? It’s just stupid. I’m not hating on young people… I’m not Bill Russell, [saying] Michael Jordan ain’t shit. I’m saying Lil Wayne and Kanye are like LeBron and Kobe. My job as someone at the forefront of the game is to leave it in a better position than when I came in. Same way that Russell [Simmons] left it to me. ’Cause this thing saved my life. Literally. So I have a responsibility to it karmically. And after that it’s on you. I did my part. I made ‘D.O.A.’ I said it. I made the statement. I made the push. Here, y’all take it from here.”

HIS LEGACY AS FORMER DEF JAM RECORDS PRESIDENT:

“So if you ask me to grade my performance as the president, I’d say A-plus. No one can bat a 100. It’s impossible. I mean, everyone is looking at my shit. But if we really looked under the hood [of] every single [record exec] and the acts they put out in that time, I’d be comparable to anyone.”

Cash Money Rapper Brisco Gets Car & Chain Robbed At A Barber Shop! (Pistol Whipped & Everything

7 News reports "Miami Police have released surveillance video of four armed men storming into a barber shop and attacking a local entertainer before robbing him. Police said four black males between the ages of 18 and 25 years old invaded a barber shop on July 29 where Opa-Locka rapper, "Brisco", was getting his hair cut. The armed subjects ordered the employees and customers to the floor inside the shop located at 6301 Northwest Sixth Avenue. Article ImageOne of the men pistol-whipped "Brisco" and robbed him of his gold chain, watch, money and his sport utility vehicle. "There was a local rapper who had just left the photoshoot. He went to a barber shop to get his hair cut. They took a little bit more off the top then expected," said Miami Police Officer Jeffery Giordano. "This robbery was off the chain. Four men entered the store, guns drawn, firing shots, luckily no one was hurt, robbing each individual that was in the barber shop. For a rapper to have his bling stolen, they might have well stolen that man's heart. They took his car also. He had a Range Rover. The vehicle was recovered in another location."

Slaughterhouse Push 18K CDs in First Week, Joe Budden HUGE FAILURE on relying on the internet for sales.

Despite a huge, loyal fanbase and intense presence on the Internet, lyrical supergroup Slaughterhouse failed to live up to their HitsDailyDouble projections on their Billboard 200 debut.

Last week, the industry website estimated that the group, consisting of Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I and Royce Da 5’9”, would sell between 23 and 25K CDs in its first week on the shelves. On the contrary, the crew’s self-titled disc ended up selling 18, 000 units, securing a no. 26 debut according to the Nielsen SoundScan.

At the top of the charts for the 10th week in a row is the Black Eyed Peas’s The E.N.D. Notching up one spot to no. 3 this go-round the Peas bagged up another 45,300 discs this week, making their overall sales figure stand at 917,400.

Sliding down six more spots this week to no. 16 is Brooklyn MC Fabolous. Fans of the Def Jam rapper picked up 23,700 copies of his latest album, Loso’s Way, this week— bringing his three week total to 159,600.

Four spots down is rap heavyweight Eminem at no. 20. In its 13th week on the charts Relapse was been scanned 20,600 times— making the Detroit lyricist’s overall tally 1,361,700.

Failing to make it onto The Billboard 200 was New Jersey rep Joe Budden. With little promotion, the self-proclaimed “best rapper on the world wide web”’s new solo set, The Escape Route, sold 1,700 units this week.

On the R&B side, Maxwell sits tight this week at no. 7. The Brooklyn soulster’s latest, Blacksummer’snight, moved 38,000 units, making its total stats 631,100 after six weeks. In his second week on the charts Universal Republic artist K-Jon slid down to the no. 36 spot— selling 13,400 copies of I Get Around. The disc now has a total tally of 47,000.

Next week look for the Black Eyed Peas to continue their dominance on the charts –Elan Mancini
